CORE BELIEFS

About God

God is the Creator and sovereign Ruler of the Universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 45:18, Nehemiah 9:6, Revelation 4:11, 2 Corinthians 13:14, 1 Peter 1:1-2, 2 Corinthians 1: 21-22, 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary by miraculous conception, lived a sinless human life, and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory where He is the only mediator between God and people. He will return to earth. He will reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Hebrews 4:15, Matthew 1:18-25, Romans 5:6-8, Revelation 5:9-10,1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Acts 1:9-12, Hebrews 9:28

About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every follower of Christ from the moment of salvation. The Holy Spirit empowers followers of Jesus to understand spiritual truth, live a life following God, and point others to a relationship with Jesus. The follower of Christ is called to live surrendered to the work of the Holy Spirit and in obedience seek guidance, wisdom, and empowerment that only the Spirit can give.
John 14: 25-27, John 16:7-15, Romans 8:9-17, Acts 1:8

About the Bible
The Bible is God’s eternal Word to humanity. It was written by human authors under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is our supreme source of truth and is the authoritative rule and guide for our lives. The Word of God is active and alive.
2 Timothy 3: 16-17, Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 119:105, John 17:17

About Humanity
We are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character. Because we are created in God’s image, all human life is of greatest value. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although we have tremendous potential for good, everyone is impacted by an attitude of rebellion toward God called sin. Sin separates people from God. It is through repentance and trusting one’s life to Jesus that we find forgiveness, freedom for new life, and a restored relationship with God.
Genesis 1: 26-31, Psalm 8:3-9, Genesis 3, Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:1-2

About Salvation
Salvation is a gift from God made available to all people. Men and women can never make up for their sin by self-improvement or good works. We believe that forgiveness is only made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus and trusting in Him as Savior and Lord. He is our only hope for eternal life. While we are justified and made right before God in a moment, the full restorative work of God in our lives for us to become more and more like Jesus happens over time and requires our intentional participation with Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:6-8, Ephesians 2: 1-10

About Eternity
People are created to exist forever. Every person will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is heaven. It is only through a relationship with Jesus that we have eternal life.
Ecclesiastes 3:11, John 3:16-18, John 5:24, John 3:36, John 10:28

About God’s Dependability
Because God gives man and woman eternal life through Jesus Christ, and adopts them as His own, salvation is received and maintained by the grace and power of God- not by the self-effort of the Christian. God's faithfulness, grace, mercy, and love give followers of Jesus the hope of eternal salvation. No power in the universe can separate God’s children from Him.
Galatians 4: 4-7, Romans 8:31-39, John 3:16

Sovereignty of God and Free Will
We acknowledge the sovereignty of God.  We also believe that in His love for us, God has given the gift of free will.  While we seek God’s guidance and direction for our lives, God does not determine our actions.  We are free to make our own decisions and are responsible for our actions.  This free will includes the ability to accept or reject Jesus as the leader of our lives and the forgiver of our sins.
Ephesians 1: 4-14, Colossians 1: 16-17, Colossians 1:15-20, Galatians 5:13, Revelation 3:20, Romans 10:9-10, Genesis 2:16-17
